Mortagne-au-Perche is a very pretty little town with undeniable charm and a captivating appearance.
A sous-prefecture of Orne, it takes its origins from a distant Gallo-Roman past.
Despite such a lengthy history, it has kept several relics/traces which bear witness to the passing of previous centuries, medieval fortifications, structures ans buildings of all ages,
narrow alleyways between the facades of tastefully restored houses.
A real identity.
Mortagne-au-Perche is the old capital of the historical region of the Perche.
With this title it displays all the assets of this beautiful region.
Perched on one of the hills of the Perche, it is surounded by a wooded countryside where woods, forests and rivers exist in harmony
and at the heart of which are embedded the traditional Perche buildings of farms,
hamlets, villages and manors.
The fact that it is located close to Paris (150 km by the RN12 dual carrriageway) means
